Wintersports in Holland
Very unexpectedly winter is colder than ever. As from end of November we have snow, frost, and the canals are frozen! On christmas eve I took the girls on their first official skating tour. We had to drive 150 miles to get there, but it certainly was worth it. The 15-mile skating tour is called 'Weerribbentocht', it is situated in a national park in the North-East of our country, marshes with straw, and with lakes and canals going through it. Juliette and Nathalie did well, some complaining towards the end, but after we'd had a cup of hot chocolate we ended the tour in good spirits. Quite an achievement for a 10 and 7 year old. These skating tours are the Dutch equivalent of skiing in Stevens Pass or Crystal Mountain. A great way to start Christmas. We hope there will be more opportunities.
